Gasthof Zum Ochsen, in Arlesheim Baselland, Switzerland

Professional welcome, straightforward answers: “No, impossible to get an upgrade without payment”. “Yes, the “last check out” is possible until 1:00 pm.” If I insist a little, the next day, I would have permission until 1:30 pm without extra payment. Everything is perfect, even the “all inclusive” little extras: mineral water, coffee, tea, and even a typical beer from the neighborhood. Very nice, the lounge to continue a few hours of work in the comfort of the warmth, with an optimal wifi. A few cows in a scene, in decoration, served me as companions. In the bedroom, there are enough electrical outlets to satisfy all the devices, the small and very practical office corner. No bathtub? Whatever the shower is design, very clean. A wall heater heats the towels tirelessly, it is gentle and pleasant. _JAG/TàG+41

The only minor drawback is the success of the restaurant, which stops me from having dinner on the property and finding a parking space nearby, in the blue zone. On the square, at night, a delightful atmosphere of store displays filled with Christmas accessories, the hotel’s boutique corner, garnished with designer wines, liquors and a few products that remind us that the origin of the place was also linked to the meat trade, of excellent quality. A hotel that deserves its four stars but has managed to preserve its locks with real keys, its old-fashioned key board at the reception desk and, on the walls, historical images follow contemporary paintings. An atmosphere, a DNA.
